I’m New!

Welcome to Ahavat Zion!

Visiting a new community can often feel overwhelming. We want to help make your introduction as easy as possible. Therefore, we have created some helpful tips and information that will assist you in knowing what to expect.

Parking

Metered street parking is available in front of the synagogue. However, FREE parking is available along Olympic Boulevard, just around the corner, or on Whitworth one block south of the synagogue. Make sure to check all related street signs. Handicap parking is also available.

Children’s Programs

Our congregation is family friendly and welcomes children of all ages, encouraging them to participate in various parts of the service. We offer a Shabbat School program for children and nursery care for infants and toddlers. Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation is also available.

Attire

Although everyone is welcome however they are dressed, out of respect for Shabbat most of our congregants dress up. This ranges from business-casual (skirts/slacks for women and slacks and a button-up shirt for men) to semi-formal (a coat and tie).

Services

Our services are a soulful blend of tradition and innovation. We use a traditional prayer book, incorporate liturgy in Hebew and English, and infuse our liturgy with music and joyous melodies.

Following the service, we invite you to join us during our oneg, where there is food and plenty of  time to schmooze with other members of the synagogue and build meaningful relationships.  Following the service and oneg  is our Beit Midrash, an interactive discussion of the weekly Torah portion, as well as other classes and activities.

Membership

Ahavat Zion is a synagogue – a Jewish community that exists to primarily meet the spiritual needs of those who are Jewish or intermarried to someone Jewish. Non-Jewish visitors are always welcome, and we truly appreciate the love and support of many of our Christian friends. However, Ahavat Zion is a unique and intentional community with a very specific vision. Therefore, in keeping with our unique vision, common Jewish practice, and halachic considerations, full membership within Ahavat Zion is reserved for those who are Jewish and intermarried couples. We look forward to meeting you!
